About
My name is John and I live on a farm in Yorkshire, England. We grow wheat, potatoes, carrots and onions.
I have been alarmed that the carrying capacity of the earth has been TEMPORARILY raised by the use of finite resources. The inevitable decline or disruption in supplies of oil and gas, together with extreme weather and a projected world population of 8 billion by 2025 will lead to the collapse of Western farming and famine unless changes are urgently made.
I have set up Peak Food to raise awareness of this threat. My book Famine in the West (available in printed or E form) sets out my thoughts in more detail and lists the actions I think Western governments need to take immediately. I would be grateful for any constructive feedback on this together with any responses to my blog.
If you share my concerns about climate change and the future of agriculture then please comment. Enjoy, and thank you for visiting.

I’m glad to hear a voice from Yorkshire raising these concerns: in a way the region is ‘at the sharp end’ of all this, with not only major food production but also ‘Megawatt alley’ (Drax etc) who in their turn are beginning to get interested in Biofuels.
One concern on mine is that the ash from said power stations cannot be put back on the fields because coal-ash and bio-ash end up being combined…Having just read ‘Farmers for 40 centuries’ I can’t help thinking this is a bad idea.
