“Among the dangers of a rise above 2C identified in the report are:
- Water shortages for between one and four billion people
- The Amazon rainforest passing a ‘tipping point’ which could see it transformed into impoverished grassland within 50 to 100 years.
- A 4C (7.2F) Â temperature rise could expose a further 80 million people to malaria in Africa, while 5C (9F) could melt large glaciers in the Himalayas, affecting a quarter of China’s population and millions of people elsewhere in Asia…
“Ms Roach said, ‘The report summarises the scientific evidence which shows the absolute necessity of keeping global temperature rise as far below 2C as possible-and the catastrophic implications of exceeding that threshold, especially for poor nations and communities’.”
